Founded just about twenty nine years ago, Ladoke Akintola University of technology can be regarded as the poster boy for ‘strike’. The University prides itself on the great virtues of ‘excellence’, ‘integrity’, and ‘service’ but misalignment of virtues between the joint owners often leaves the institution in protracted crises.
It is instructive to know that the main campus and the Teaching Hospital of the university are situated on Ogbomosho and Osogbo respectively.
And to be fair, history has revealed that the two owner’s states have committed substantial resources towards the operation of the decades-old institution. But when politicization of issues around its management would cripple academics and extra-curricular activities, it’s better to work out a permanent solution.
This fact, along with others, must have motivated the new governor of Oyo State to seek a full ownership of the institution. He has instituted a committee to that effect, if a couple can no longer live peacefully together, a divorce arrangement won’t be a bad option. The new teaching Hospital built by ex-Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala can be retained by LAUTECH while the newer osun state university can reclaim the full ownership of the Teaching Hospital at Osogbo.
