Nigeria Ranks High On List Of Dangerous Countries For Children
ShareShareShareShare

Nigeria ranks high on the list of most dangerous African countries for children, according to a report by Save the Children International.

In the report, a total of 93,326 children have lost their lives or body parts in conflicts in 12 countries globally in a period of 10 years.

Nigeria falls in the bottom 10 where childhood is most threatened, languishing at the base with Somalia, South Sudan, Mali, Chad, Central African Republic, Niger, Burkina Faso, Guinea, and Madagascar.

The End of Childhood Index made comparisons between 180 countries, which it says is the highest ever, to assess “where the most and fewest children are missing out on childhood”.

The index focused on the key rights of childhood including life, healthy growth and development, education, and protection from harm.

Save the Children International’s CEO, Inger Ashing, in a statement, disclosed that this year, 180 million children lived in volatile areas, an increase from the 2018 report.

She said, “Around 160 million children lived in a high-intensity conflict zone, also an increase compared to 2018.

“Behind the stark numbers are countless stories of the child victims of war. Many are casualties of people blatantly disregarding international laws and standards, and governments turning a blind eye.”
