Largest Water Tank In Africa Built By Abeco

Abeco Tanks has announced the completion of their biggest tank in Africa. Equal to the surface area of two tennis courts, the water tank holds 5.8 Million litres of water, providing a water storage ‘bank’ to one of South Africa’s biggest poultry producers.

The storage tank, which is similar to a bank, allows the producer to save water which is critical for their survival in the North West Province of South Africa, where water interruption and scarcity is common.

As Africa’s forerunners in water tanks, Abecomanufactured the 5.8 Million litres rectangular, sectional bolted steel tank exactly to meet the needs of this agricultural giant.

Water reliability is a concern for agricultural companies because their financials and economic contribution is directly impacted if there is no water supply.

The chicken farm that Abeco built the tank for is the largest supplier of poultry in the country and the tank is required for the survival of livestock and working of the processing plant.

Laying hens are susceptible to disturbance, like the disruption of water supply, and could stop laying eggs for up to two weeks as a result.

Mannie Ramos Jnr, COO of Abeco Tankscomments: “We are the only tank manufacturer in Southern Africa that had the expertise to manufacture and supply a tank of this size in the timeframe it was needed.”

The Abeco team had to manufacture the 5.8M litre tank, join it to the existing tank on site, as well as make sure it was water-tight and secure, in just38 days compared to 128 days – the average time frame for a tank of this size.

Abeco’s precision engineering capabilities allowed them to design a custom-sized rectangular tank that is modular, making it very easy to transport and set up.

Using only the best steel, Abeco’s storage tanks are completely hygienic and safe for livestock consumption.

The water storage tanks are created with longevity in mind using the following:

• Internal bracings of angle iron welded to base plates
• Sealants and rubber components are non-toxic and non-tainting to ensure the safety of the water
• Steel components are hot dip galvanised to never rust and has the latest in tank corrosion protection
