Kelechi Iheanacho scored Nigeria’s opener in the 24th minute after a well-worked play from midfielder Alex Iwobi against Liberia in their World Cup qualifier at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The Eagles haven’t won in their last two games, losing 1-0 and held 0-0 by Cameroon in double friendlies in June.
Liberia on their part has only recorded one win in their last five games.
The game was the first between both countries since 2012, where the Eagles demolished the Lone Star 6-1 in Calabar after bouncing back to a 2-2 draw in Monrovia in the reverse fixture.
The Super Eagles, who have starred in six of the last seven FIFA World Cup finals, host the Lone Star of Liberia at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos and then travel to the island of Mindelo to tango with the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde on Day 2 of the series on Tuesday, 7th September.
