How To Change Windows 11’s Default System Font

More customization choices are available in Windows 11 than in Windows 10. If you’ve been using the Windows 11 preview releases, you’ll notice that the operating system has a new user interface, Start menu, and icons. The operating system also included a few new wallpaper themes.

You can change the default system fonts if you’ve exhausted all of your customization options and are looking for more. To give your Windows 11 PC a new look, you can change the default system typeface. We’ll also learn how to modify the default system font in Windows 11 in this tutorial.

How to Change Windows 11’s Default System Font

To change the font on Windows 11, you need to modify the registry settings. Hence, it’s recommended to safely backup the Registry file before following the steps. So, let’s check out how to change the default system font on the latest Windows 11 operating system.

1. On Windows 11, select a font from the Font Menu.

To begin, you must know the name of the font that you want to use as the default system font. Only pre-installed fonts can be set as the default system font in Windows 11. Here are some of the simple steps you can take.

  •  Start by typing Font Settings into the Windows 11 Search box. Then, from the search results, select Font Settings.
  • Scroll down the Fonts Page until you locate the font you want to use as your default. After that, write down the font’s name.
  • You can also use the next method to add your fonts to Windows 11.

2. Change the Windows 11 default system font

You can make it the default system font after you know the font name. To change the system font, you must first create a registry file. This is what you have to do.

  • Open Notepad on your Windows 11 computer.
  • Paste the following code into Notepad:
  • Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts]
    "Segoe UI (TrueType)"=""
    "Segoe UI Bold (TrueType)"=""
    "Segoe UI Bold Italic (TrueType)"=""
    "Segoe UI Italic (TrueType)"=""
    "Segoe UI Light (TrueType)"=""
    "Segoe UI Semibold (TrueType)"=""
    "Segoe UI Symbol (TrueType)"=""[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes]"Segoe UI"="FONT-NAME"

Important: Replace FONT-NAME with the name of the font you’d like to use as default. For instance, if you want Adobe Arabic to be your default system font, the code would be:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts]
"Segoe UI (TrueType)"=""
"Segoe UI Bold (TrueType)"=""
"Segoe UI Bold Italic (TrueType)"=""
"Segoe UI Italic (TrueType)"=""
"Segoe UI Light (TrueType)"=""
"Segoe UI Semibold (TrueType)"=""
"Segoe UI Symbol (TrueType)"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes]

"Segoe UI"="Adobe Arabic"

  •  Once you’re done, go to the File menu and select Save As . or Ctrl +Shift+s
  • Select ‘All files’ as the Save as type in the Save as window. Next, type in a name for the file followed by the .reg extension. New System font.reg is such an example.
  • When finished, click the Save  button in the Save As window. Then, right-click on the newly created Registry file and select Open.
  • You will now see a confirmation dialog box. To use the new font, click the Yes button.

That’s all! This will change the default system font on your Windows 11 PC.

3. Restoring the Default System Font in Windows 11

If you want to undo the font change, you must create a new registry file. Follow some of the simple steps outlined below.

  • To begin, open Notepad on your Windows 11 computer and paste the following code into it.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts]
"Segoe UI (TrueType)"="segoeui.ttf"
"Segoe UI Black (TrueType)"="seguibl.ttf"
"Segoe UI Black Italic (TrueType)"="seguibli.ttf"
"Segoe UI Bold (TrueType)"="segoeuib.ttf"
"Segoe UI Bold Italic (TrueType)"="segoeuiz.ttf"
"Segoe UI Emoji (TrueType)"="seguiemj.ttf"
"Segoe UI Historic (TrueType)"="seguihis.ttf"
"Segoe UI Italic (TrueType)"="segoeuii.ttf"
"Segoe UI Light (TrueType)"="segoeuil.ttf"
"Segoe UI Light Italic (TrueType)"="seguili.ttf"
"Segoe UI Semibold (TrueType)"="seguisb.ttf"
"Segoe UI Semibold Italic (TrueType)"="seguisbi.ttf"
"Segoe UI Semilight (TrueType)"="segoeuisl.ttf"
"Segoe UI Semilight Italic (TrueType)"="seguisli.ttf"
"Segoe UI Symbol (TrueType)"="seguisym.ttf"
"Segoe MDL2 Assets (TrueType)"="segmdl2.ttf"
"Segoe Print (TrueType)"="segoepr.ttf"
"Segoe Print Bold (TrueType)"="segoeprb.ttf"
"Segoe Script (TrueType)"="segoesc.ttf"
"Segoe Script Bold (TrueType)"="segoescb.ttf"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes]

"Segoe UI"=-

  • Once you’re done, go to the File menu and select Save As.
  • Select ‘All files’ as the Save as type in the Save as window(down below). After that, give the file a name and add the.reg extension. Default font.reg is an example.
  • Then, to save the registry file, click the Save button. After saving, right-click on the Registry file and choose Open.
  • Click the Yes button on the confirmation prompt.

That’s it! This will restore your Windows 11 PC to its default font.

That’s all there is to changing the default system font on a Windows 11 PC. Third-party apps can be used to customize Windows 11 if you want more customization options. Third-party customization apps will allow you to customize your Windows 11 PC’s live wallpapers, Start menu, and Taskbar.
