The ‘Killin’ Dem’ singer won the ‘Best Male MVP’ award, a category he won over Nigerian talents Wizkid, Davido and Zlatan Ibila, Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz, Ghanaian musician King Promise and SJava, a respected South African artiste.
Burna Boy again defeated Wizkid and Davido and was crowned ‘Artiste Of The Year’. He also conquered Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade who are bigwigs from his home country, Nigeria, and other African musicians, such as Diamond Platnumz, Ghanaian dancehall singer Shatta Wale, and South African singer ShoMadjozi.
Burna Boy secured his third award through his popular hit track, ‘Killin’ Dem’. The song was pronounced ‘Song of the year’, it edged out Naira Marley’s viral single, ‘Soapy’, Rema’s ‘Dumebi’, Joeboy’s ‘Baby’, Zlatan Ibile’s ‘Zanku (Legwork) and Teni’s applauded music, ‘Billionaire’ amongst others.
Other winners at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Award Festival include Mavin Records’ wonder boy, Rema who copped the ‘Best New MVP’ award, Fireboy DML won the ‘Listeners’ Choice’ award, Teni secured the ‘Best Female MVP’, Davido won the ‘Digital Artiste of the Year’, Naira Marly in the category of ‘Viewers’ Choice’, while Tiwa Savage’s ’49-99’ was pronounced ‘Video of the Year’.
Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba also won ‘Excellence in Music’, a special recognition award. DJ Cuppy was presented ‘Excellence in Philanthropy’ award, Anthony Joshua got ‘Excellence in Sports’ award, and Bright Jaja received ‘Excellence in Social Entrepreneurship and Digital Influence’ award.
The 2020 Soundcity MVP Award Festival took place on January 11, 2020, at the Eko Convention Center, Lagos state, Nigeria.
